About Us
We create opportunities for change
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were born into a different world, into a different place, a different life? We talk a lot about equality in our society, but the reality of equal opportunity is that it is just not available to all – if we look at the stats around education and life expectancy, just as an example, within Leeds alone, the contrast between areas like Beeston & Holbeck and other more affluent areas of our city are humblingly different. Within a few miles’ generational deprivation has become a silent thief whose ripple effects within our ‘child friendly city’ have a catastrophic impact upon expectation and opportunity.
When we pause to reflect, in the midst of life’s busyness, we all know that both justice and injustice runs through our day-to-day society and sometimes it can be easier to judge or discard, what we don’t understand, even without realising it. But who’s to say, if we were born at a different moment, at a different time, into a different community, whether the silent thief of generational deprivation would have knocked on our door. Maybe it has.
It takes great courage to challenge the thief of generational ‘norms’, to believe that educational and economic opportunity are available.
To believe that one matters enough to have an abuse free, prison free, drug free life; to face pain, to journey to a place of emotional literacy, of hope.
As a charity, we aim to challenge the thief, to bridge the gap. We ‘create opportunities for change.’ As a team we have high expectations for and of our local young people and our local community.
Our aim is to play a part in the ripple effects of change, to encourage our kids to be kids, to learn to have dreams for their lives and to fight to make those dreams a reality, to pursue justice in equality.
Our hope is that through the relationships we build, the projects that we run and the activities that we deliver those we engage with will come to understand their innate value, will find their own voices, their own passions and talents, will become more confident, happier, healthy contributors to society.
