What We Do

In leeds

During the week we run regular activities in Beeston & Holbeck for 7 to 19 year olds. We run youth club/drop-ins on a Monday and Thursday evening 5.30 until 7pm at the Bridge Project (Health for All building) in Holbeck and then run closed sessions for our Young & Courageous Project after these.  Throughout the week we also do one-to -one, group and youth committee sessions – providing regular support and life skill development.  We use a lot of art, cooking and sporting activities to develop fun spaces in which young people can develop their social skills and have a safe place in which to belong. We also offer broader community support where this is needed.

trips and residentials

During school holidays and occasionally during term time we adapt our normal weekly sessions and run trips and residentials.  Taking young people out of the one square mile radius where they spend most of their lives and giving them the opportunities to try new and fun activities: be it trampolining, climbing, abseiling, canoeing or raft building, being creative, feeding the homeless, visiting museums or other cities.  Our trips and residentials are diverse, aim to develop confidence, trust and increase life expectation whilst enabling the development of lifelong memories.

further afield

Our Phocus project is a voluntary project that we run, combining long-term local based grassroots youth work with adventure-based learning through international expedition, primarily to Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world.  Once every couple of years we take a small group of our teenagers and young leaders to Sierra Leone to work in partnership with Transform Salone – a charity that provides education, medical assistance and food relief to those otherwise unable to afford it.  This project aims to raise social awareness and employability through first-hand experience.

To challenge limiting worldviews by making the impossible, possible; encouraging young people to dream bigger dreams for their lives.  Phocus explores young people attitudes, values and aspirations by creating an environment through and in which young people can grow, belong and develop the potential that they hold, both individually and collectively within their lives.  As leaders we cover our own expenses and help others on the team fundraise for a year prior to expedition to make this opportunity possible.
